Defining Success Exercise

I’m reading Tim Knox’s new book, Everything I Know About Business I Learned from My Mama, and I ran across an exercise that I think is too good not to share.
Here it is:
List the following categories on a piece of paper: personal, emotional, spiritual, parental, spouse, family, business, professional, etc.
Beside each category write your idea of success for that topic. If your idea of success on a personal level is to be the best person you can be, with a giving heart and a caring spirit, write that down.
Next, make a list of the actions you must take to be a success in each category, along with a schedule for carrying out those actions.
Identify conflicts among the categories. Create a plan of resolution for any conflicts.
I did a very similar exercise recently (before reading Tim’s book) and was very surprised at how clear my goals become and how much more focused I was on the tasks I needed to complete (to meet my goals).
I hope you find this exercise helpful. If you’d like to read Tim’s book, you can learn more about it here.
